Second Hand Fashion San Diego Style

What else is there to do in a beautiful beach town than hitting the sand, catching some waves and taking over the boardwalk with a beach cruiser? If you thought about heading to the mall to find the latest original streetwear styles, think again. Granted, San Diego’s is no hub for high fashion, but what makes the shopping experience unique in our laid back little paradise is the variety of second hand shops, vintage and thrift stores, where the price conscious consumer and the hipster meet to discover unique styles, bargains of brand name clothing, and retro outfits from last century.

Thrift store shopping has long ago shed the stigma of being on par with “dumpster diving,” and the emergence of the “green lifestyle” into the mainstream has made second hand appealing to more and more regular consumers. At Fred Sandiego, we embrace earth-friendly products and individuality in style, and a great way to combine these two is to spend the day exploring the many second hand clothing stores in San Diego.

Luckily, many of our favorite second hand fashion hubs are centered close to the beach, so combining a day on the beach and discovering unique pieces of streetwear is a breeze. A great starting point for touring thrift stores is the Pacific Beach neighborhood, where you will find a location of the popular Buffalo Exchange stores. But don’t stop there – stroll down Garnet Avenue and you will find small vintage shops, along with used record stores. Up the coast in Encinitas, another great spot for true vintage finds is Flashbacks, which along with its original store in the Hillcrest neighborhood has a fun atmosphere and has a wide collection of colorful vintage dresses, shoes and accessories, both for men and women. Although the well established second hand boutiques will most likely carry an outfit to die for, sometimes the best pieces are hiding in the barely discernible independent thrift shops scattered around the city.

Oh, and don’t forget that most of the stores also buy used clothes, so do a little spring cleaning in your closet and get some cash for the clothes you haven’t worn since 1995!
