The Library Suits

The Library Suits
Chelmsford, Essex, UK – Indie, Rock

Despite being unsigned, this four-piece from Chelmsford in the UK have already made two albums. The Library Suits is a band that seems not to take itself too seriously, as songs such as You Don’t Have to Be a Wizard testify, although the video for A Year Without Summer, a simply produced song, which does not appear on either album but can be found on You Tube, is amusing and irritating in about equal parts. The gorgeous guitar sound with a touch of overdrive more than makes up for it.

The guitars are certainly this band’s most ear catching feature, both in terms of sound and content, with many songs opening with an attention-grabbing guitar hook and lead guitarist Richard Olding is sporting a magnificent moustache in the video for stand out track October in the Theatre, which can be found on the band’s Myspace site. Other videos are also available on the site, including a live performance on television of Jeremy Kyle’s Inner Valkyrie. However, all Christmas singles should be avoided and despite the irony, Christmas Retreat is no exception.

Other highlights are Heirs to the Atmosphere and Everything for Sale. One of the strengths of this band is that they don’t really sound like anyone else, although there are occasional hints of Manic Street Preachers circa 1996.

Band members: Jon Ruskin – lead vocals and guitar, Matt Langley – bass guitar and backing vocals, Richard Olding – lead guitar and backing vocals, Paul Davidson – Drums and percussion
