Let’s face the facts we’ve got very little information about the band we picked out. Wulf of Collision is a part Belgian, part British Hard Rock band formed in Hoogstraten, Belgium. They have just recorded their first demo couple of months ago. But the truth is that one photo and great music is enough for a review.

The first track of the demo, “self titled” When Wulves Collide really kicks ass. I necessarily want to use this trite phrase ’cause there’s no better way to describe it. Pay attention to the drum track of this particular song! “Fall of a Titan” is more of a traditional and strong rock song. My favorite one is the last track of the demo “Monster Inside Me” which reminds me of the early recordings of Def Leppard.

It is remarkable that a band that has been around for a short time is already able to offer such well produced, aptly arranged music. Hopefully they will continue to develop from this promising beginning.

Band members: Vocals – Yannick ‘Woesh’ Woestenborghs, Lead Guitar – Colin Ashcroft, Rhythm Guitar – Jeroen Claesen, Bass – Matthijs Braspenning, Drums – Roel Sommen

Brian Lanese launched the band in 2008. He is a three time Emmy Award Winner, and recent Grammy Nominee. He sings/writes/and produces all the music for the band including each instrumental part. Permanent Ability is literally Brian Lanes’s band. Other band members are not mentioned by name.

We care about the music and we know that this band has got some great, catchy funk rock songs. “From the Womb to Hollywood” EP was released in 2008 and the latest “Bring It On!” was released in 2010. You can listen to both of these albums on band’s website and more preferable option is of cource buying’em from CDBaby.

“Little Black Bra” from the first EP is surely a hit song, no doubt about it. It’s comparable with the best RHCP songs. The latest album is consistent collection of 6 very well written funk rock songs. “Shades of Gray” is our favorite. Quality of sound and mixing makes it easy to familiarize yourself with Permanent Ability’s music. It takes some ability to write such lyrics. Strongly recommending!

We’ve been receiving a lot of suggestions lately and Rebel Inc. was one of those. It took about 30 sec. to make the decision this time. Sometimes it just clicks instantly. This band f**king rocks and it’s not raining in Baltimore anymore!

Rebel Inc. is a Baltimore based band but the roots are in Detroit Rock City. The music is a mixture of metal, rap and alternative rock. There’s no doubt that Rage Againts the Machine, White Zombie and bunch of other bands alike have had an strong influence on their sound and music. However raw power and energy can only come from the heart. You either have it or you don’t.

The songs on their self titled 6-track EP are invariably fast paced, energetic and intense, with roaring lead guitar riffs to the fore. “909 Revolution” is a enjoyable mixture of Slayer and Rage againts. “Broken Man” is one of my favorites. This “hip-hop metal” just makes you wanna jump up and down. “Everything You Hate” is a track with thoughtful lyrics and a lot of aggression within. Adams’s or correctly said Strong’s vocals are what give the band’s sound its edge.

It is said that one of the strengths of this band is their live shows. Well, as soon as I find my way to the East Coast I will surely check the band out and find out whether this rumor is true or not. In the meanwhile we all can enjoy their live performance videos on their site.

Honestly, it is challenging to find soft spots of this band. Musical differentiation is the only thing that comes to my mind. Walk your way and deepen your individuality. These guys are on their way to the Big League!

Band members: Adam- Vocals, Kevin- Guitar/Vocals, B-lock- Drums, Benny- Bass/Vocals

This four piece from Edinburgh plays good old 60′s style reckless retro rock. It’s surely not an easy task to stand out walking this path but these guys ace up their sleeve -cellist Claire Schiavone.

The Cosmonauts have just finished recording their debut album which we are anxious to hear. Meanwhile we focus on the new songs available on their Reverb Nation site (see link below). “Tell me” is a perfect opening track, a real kick-start for a gig or sunny Friday morning. It’s notable that vocalist Chris Bryce has a perfect rock’n roll voice. “Memoirs” is a groovy song with a catchy cello track. However, “Dawnbreaks” is my favorite piece. Its melody, backing vocals and easy going guitar riffs create a nice ensemble.

The band were formed in 2008 by guitarist/vocalist Chris Bryce and bassist/vocalist Alan Robertson, the latest phase in a long-term collaboration of almost 10 years. With the aim of creating a more distinctive sound, Claire Schiavone was brought on board. After experimenting with several dummers, Paul Stuart joined the group in 2009.

Hopefully the band will continue to develop the uniqueness of their style and music. Anyhow the future seems bright for The Cosmonauts.

Helsinki, Finland – Alternative Rock

In 2007, Blanket, unleashed its magnificent debut album, This Is the New Wave of Political Rock, through its Independent Fruit Company collective and it’s a record bristling with intelligent, energetic rock music, which despite being vitriolic and highly political, somehow manages not to come across as preachy and self righteous. This could be down to the fact that there is a great deal of humour in Blanket’s work too, as evidenced by the song I Don’t Want To Be A Software Developer, as well as the album’s cover art and the band’s ongoing commitment to the Moose Liberation Front, which is admittedly a humorous approach to the serious fact of human disregard for nature in the name of progress.

It is hard to believe that this four-piece from Helsinki, Finland made its album in a rehearsal room, rather than a recording studio and this is testament to the production skills of Clark Kent frontman Jaakko Rikko. Some of the album’s more outstanding moments include vehement attacks on: the Iraq war in Eyes Wide Shut; suicide bombers in Action; the absurdity of the concept that each of us has a different value, depending on our country of origin, in Ivalo and US foreign policy in Henry the Killer.

These four songs, along with the guitar riffs of Interlude #1 and Reservoir are more than enough reasons to want to own this album and then share it – the CD is copy encouraged and even comes with a spare copy, to give to a friend.

Blanket have been in semi hibernation for the last couple of years, partly due to family commitments but probably also in part due to the sad fact that they are based in a country where original music that challenges the listener to think tends to be frowned upon, unless it comes from overseas.

Official website »
Facebook »

Band members: Ville Könönen – vocals and guitar, Teppo Jalava – guitar, Willi Messmer – drums, Simo Särkkä – bass and backing vocals.
